History

The Journey

The Laverton Magpies Football Club (LMFC) was established in 1924 and joined the Werribee District Football League with other such clubs as Irish National Forresters, Lara, Little River, Metro Farm & Werribee. We participated in this league for our first 42 years until a merger of Werribee South, Irish National Forresters, Services & Metro Farm created the Werribee VFA team and this league was immediately disbanded.
Unfortunately, we didnt win a premiership in this league, however we were runners up in 1924 to Metro Farm 18.7 (115) to 7.12 (54), in 1932 to Altona City 12.10 (82) to 4.13 (37) & again in 1949 to Werribee South 18.17 (125) to 9.8 (62).
In 1966 we joined the Western Suburban Football League with Albion 2nds, Central Altona, Kingsville 2nds, Maidsone, Newport, St. Albans 2nds, South Kingsville Rovers & West Newport. Unfortunately no premierships, but we were runners up to Altona City in 1980 and to West Newport in 1984, 1985 & 1986.
At the end of the 1987 season saw the end of the Western Suburban Football League and this neccesitated our move to the Footscray District Football League in their A2 Section 2 competition and finally 2 years later saw us finally break through with a Senior Premiership in 1989 when we defeated Wyndhamvale 2.16 (28) to 4.3 (27) in a dour struggle in windy conditions.
The 1990s were successful years regularly making finals, but only 1 grand final in 1997, where we lost to Braybrook 18.18 (126) to 10.16 (76). Several lean years have come since, but finals appearances come in 2009 & 2014.

Seniors and Reserves

Our seniors and reserve teams put on the black and white each week and represent Laverton in the WRFL. They look to have a successful future.

Juniors

Each Saturday our AusKickers jump out onto the field for a kick. Lots of fun and laughs are had by all. In 2018 we have over 40 registered players.

Senior Women's

2018 is the inaugural year for our senior women’s team. They have been training during 2017 and 2018 and can’t wait to jump out onto the field and experience football.
